Dear all,

I would like to invite you to participate in the workshop Experience, Memory,
and Self-Narrative: Interdisciplinary Perspectives, held in the Department of
Philosophy at Macquarie University.

The workshop will take place in the Arts Precinct Function Centre (C122, 25
Wally’s Walk, Macquarie University) on 16 and 17 February 2023.

It is organised in collaboration with the Creative Documentary Research Centre
(CDRC)<https://www.mq.edu.au/research/research-centres-groups-and-facilities/centres/creative-documentary-research-centre>
and partly supported by the Macquarie University Research Centre for Agency,
Value and Ethics
(CAVE)<https://www.mq.edu.au/research/research-centres-groups-and-facilities/resilient-societies/centres/macquarie-university-research-centre-for-agency,-values-and-ethics>.

Within and across cultures and historical times, self-narratives have played an
important role for sharing, understanding, and configuring lived experiences.
Research in developmental psychology has shown that processes of self-narration
can structure and shape processes of autobiographical remembering. At the same
time, philosophical research indicates that self-narration crucially depends on
autobiographical remembering. The negotiation of past experiences, recent
narratological work suggests, is part and parcel of autobiographical writing.

This workshop brings together leading scholars from philosophy, psychology,
literary studies, and anthropology to examine and discuss the many links
between experience, memory, and self-narrative. An important aim is to forge
new interdisciplinary connections and identify avenues for future research.

Speakers: Veronica Alfano, Penny van Bergen, Louise D’Arcens, Regina Fabry,
Celia Harris, Merril Howie, Daniel Hutto, Richard Menary, Karen Pearlman, Kate
Rossmanith, and Lillian Wilde.
