Jon, I guess the primary work could turn around a new API for requesting objects, and that would make the plugin compatible with both ORMs. But that's not enough. Once you have your objects, you have to manipulate them, and there Propel and Doctrine are very different.
So until we figure that out, I'll keep working on more interfaces to Propel features only. But the idea is interesting.
