Hi, I'm a developer at a ticket agency in the UK (a smaller competitor of Ticketmaster / SeeTickets)
Because of the nature of the business, our traffic is extremely "peaky" i.e. we'll experience very high load for a couple of hours serveral times a month (when popular artists go on sale), and then a fairly constant stream at all other times. Our webservers really do start to struggle when we hit these high-load periods, and I've been attempting to increase the performance of our site the best I can (evaluating memcached, etc). I don't mind admitting that I'm out of my depth at this point, and progress is slow and based on trial and error. Our directors have decided that they do not want to wait, and want to bring in an experienced consultant to evaluate and improve our system architechture, so I'm asking here for recommendations? I'm sure there are a number of you that have experience in this area - does anyone provide such a service?
