I had a look at Monolog. It looks nice and straightforward, clearly written, 
nicely done. 

But I don't think this is really a problem that needs to be resolved by writing 
more code. 

I agree that ZF is a seriously large dependency - it could stand to be more 
decoupled. Perhaps people here with some influence in the ZF dev community 
could suggest something. Still, ZF does have some big advantages over Monolog:

* It's widely used and well-known by many developers
* It's backed by a large developer community
* It's extensively documented
* It's been in the real world for a while (i.e., it's had time to have the bugs 
knocked out of it)

I heard a rumour that Fabien mentioned during SFLive that there might be 
multiple flavours of Symfony2, and I can easily imagine that one of them could 
be a compact, ZF-free one. A Monolog bundle could be very helpful for something 
like that. Keep it up!
