Its a bug in the database driver, its fixed now and will be in the next
mini release.

If not, I may just have to use dbal and drop orm altogether. My
database currently houses over 40 tables and about 30 of them are a
part of such complex relationships. I'm not sure how orm will handle
them. I may end up writing a lot more code, but at least the
performance will be better.
