Dave,

I'm on ubuntu 11.04 myself and the recipe works perfectly.
Have you installed the acl package as suggested?
You also have to make sure your filesystem OS mounted with acl enabled
option, check your fstab.
Then follow the recipe in the docs and you should be fine.
