I am using Zend studio for development and I do not know of an option to add libraries anywhere (unless you add the symfony directory to the project, then you have autocomplete for all symfony classes). Can you tell us which guidelines are confusing and where you are reading about symfony development + svn. Actually you should be looking at web development + svn rather that symfony + svn as there is nothing special to symfony + svn (apart from not adding several directories to the svn repository, like cache, log)
