I guess it depends on how familiar you are with each version. If you are familiar enough with 1.2 to achieve all of your objectives, then go with 1.2. If you haven't started using 1.2 yet, then you need to work out how long it will take you to get up to speed, and if that will leave you enough time to work on your projects.
