An interesting titbit that came up; x = Symbol('\sigma_{x}'); print  
latex(x**2); >>> ${\sigma_{x}}^{2}$ notice
that the entire variable is encased in {}. This means that the ^{2} term is  
shifted to the right of the _{x} term, as
opposed to being on the same vertical plane.
