solve(f.evalf(), lmbda)

This means f is a univariate polynomial with coefficients which are multivariate rational functions with inexact coefficients. Such constructs are not supported currently by Poly class (CoercionFailed is just a delayed sign of this fact).

Even if this construct was supported, solve() wouldn't give you any solutions. I will
add support in solve() for your equation in near future.
