This still doesn't always work.
In [11]: n = -1 + 1/x
In [12]: z=n/x/(-n)**2-1/n/x
In [13]: z.expand()
Out[13]:
1 1 1
- ───────── - ────── + ─────────────
1 -x + 1 ⎛ 1⎞
x - 2 + ─ x⋅⎜x - 2 + ─⎟
x ⎝ x⎠
In [14]: z.expand(deep=True)
Out[14]:
1 1 1
- ───────── - ────── + ─────────────
1 -x + 1 ⎛ 1⎞
x - 2 + ─ x⋅⎜x - 2 + ─⎟
x ⎝ x⎠
