I think the unicode problem can be fixed by changing the usepackage from
utf8 to utf8x and adding the package ucs (see
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/sphinx-dev/kUeROyCyX9w/discussion).
I did that, and it seemed to get rid of the unicode problems, but it still
doesn't work, because there are a lot of undefined latex commands. So I
give up for now. If someone with more LaTeX experience and patience wants
to try it, go for it.
Mateusz, you've done a lot of stuff with Sphinx and LaTeX. Any ideas on how
to make this work?
