I guess this is Apple's LLVM gdb vs. gcc gdb.
Anyway, this has pointed me in the right direction. It has something to do
with something mpmath is doing when the backend is sage (if you set the
environment variable MPMATH_NOSAGE it works fine). I'll see if I can
figure it out.
