Comment #57 on issue 2482 by [email protected]: Stop bundling mpmath
http://code.google.com/p/sympy/issues/detail?id=2482
P.S. Just discovered this post:
http://vagabond.github.io/2013/06/21/z_packagers-dont-know-best/ I am
posting it here to lighten up the discussion a bit :), but the author has
a point.
Yes, this raises some valid concerns from an application-developer
perspective. However, it also misses a lot of the points outlined in:
-
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:No_Bundled_Libraries#Why_no_Bundled_Libraries
- http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Why_not_bundle_dependencies
- http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-source.html#s-embeddedfiles
I still think we can make a compromise somewhere in between: make Sympy
easier to install for people using Windows or OS X, but at the same time
now bundle a private (forked) copy of mpmath. Maybe doing something like
the Orange data mining suite? See: http://orange.biolab.si/download/
