(8) still returns 1.  As far as I can tell, the issue appears to be that
gruntz fails, and the heuristic tries 1**oo, which it takes as 1.

My preferred fix for this is to set 1**oo == S.NaN because

1**oo = exp( log(1**oo) ) = exp( oo*log(1) ) = exp( oo * 0 ) = exp( NaN )
