unsure of the english terminology). In the cases when it's not continuous
it will simplify to something not continuous.

f/g will be x, which is continuous. So yes, in this case, the simplification changes the result.

For f=x and g=x**2, however, f/g could be simplified to 1/x without eliminating a discontinuity(term?)
