This is excellent test for correctness of library action! It is not reommendent to keep received buffer full in the moment of sending new command. Low Timeout is set here just to get error at once on relatively clean 56Kbit line, but on some telephone line even 60 second is too small - the same problem will happens! You wrote that timeout is a policy against broken connection, however connection is not closed!
