synapse does the switching itself = autodetection
i cant know if the server supports APOP or not in the beginning
and i cant be sure that the user knows it
therefore the autodetection is perfect and it works perfect for all servers
until i encounter this specific one
if i understood it correctly, the stuck occurs when trying to use APOP and it
fails
the problem is that it takes 5-20 minutes for the server to realize it doesnt
support APOP
mayb synapse should use the APOP as a last resort instead of what it does now?

What? Amos, please, read my source codes correctly!
Synapse using autodetection of APOP support. If APOP support is available
on server, then it using it. However you can select pure PLAIN text or
pure APOP, instead of autodetection, if you wish.

Because your server is broken, because autodetection of APOP detects APOP
support, but your server have broken APOP. What is bad on selectin of
authorization method in your POP3 server config inside your application?
