In terms of usability, I think there could be a better solution than what is 
currently available.  As you said, you need to start it from the command 
line.

However, you should not (unless something has changed since I last used it a 
while back) need to only start it whenever you plug in your device.  It 
should support autosyncing.  For example, just leave it running in the 
background and then the phone should automatically request a synchronization 
after it is plugged in.
