I know we like to make things as easy as possible for everyone we can possibly think of, but most users that install from source aren't too concerned about a little manual setup, and could probably keep an eye on which plugin they need at any particular time, if it's in a README. Distros and their packages, on the other hand, are there to make life easy for users who don't do tarballs, and have features to make this stuff easy. For instance, I'd build 3 debs from sync-engine, the core engine and 2 plugins, and use dependencies and conflicts to manage them.
