Make sure you are doing:

wget http://downloads.sf.net/synce/sync-engine-0.11.tar.gz
git clone git://git.jonnylamb.com/git/packaging/synce-sync-engine.git
tar zxf sync-engine-0.11.tar.gz
mv synce-sync-engine/debian sync-engine-0.11/
cd sync-engine-0.11/
dpkg-buildpackage
