OK, I have tracked that problem down. It is a packaging problem with the new GSettings schema files. See bug #98014. The account details now have to be setup using gsettings instead of gconf. I will need to update my instructions in the Wiki. activesyncd now works without crashing. But it is being sent empty data by the server.
