I think not. Synfig text is not a super great tool. If we can replace that but with some inconsistency in usability I don't think it is a huge deal. Is anyone relying on the current text tool for work? Would it mess up the workfow for anyone? The only reason I see for this is backward compability. Will peoples scenes get messed up? Put your efforts elsewhere in cairo implementation. You're doing an excellent work!
