The Rectangle layer isn't optimized in Cobra engine yet. It's support is included using the fallback proxy function. This function is added to allow Cobra to render some layers (namely, only ones based on Composite Layer) that aren't really supported yet. If the layer isn't supported, then Cobra calls the function from the Legacy renderer. Converting from one render engine to another takes time, that's why you got slowdown. Again, Rectangle layer isn't really implemented in Cobra right now. It will be simple to implement it, but we haven't had time to do that yet.
