Hello, I'm new to this board. I'm really interested in syrup making. I remember my grandfather messing with a little bit of syrup making when I was a kid. He lived in Georgia. That man loved cane syrup. He mainly grew some sugar cane and we would "grind" it; Usually about 20 or 30 gals at a time, maybe more. He loved to drink the juice and so did the grandkids. There wasn't much left for syrup making. I remember it being a super high power "laxative" on myself...Anyway, like most things in life, you wished you had paid more attention to detail and picked up on the ways of the "Old Timers" before it became a lost art. Unfortunately, my grandfather is no longer with us, I wish I had paid more attention to some of his ways. He took 81 years of knowledge with him when he left. I have his old 8n tractor, cane mill, kettle and a few other things he acquired during his lifetime. I've decided to make use of them and pass the enjoyment I had as a kid down to my children and grandchildren. Like some other folks on this board, I am drawn to the ways and machines that remind me of a simpler time. I have never made syrup. I hope to attend some syrup makings in the future. I live near Albemarle, North Carolina, but have notebook will travel!
