Hi, I think it would be nice if there was a way to have a boot option in grub for x86 and on newboot for sparc to do recovery operations from. Would probably require a special zfs dataset with the install miniroot. Should have all the tools to repair an installation. Obviously, if the boot zfs pool is nuked, not much one can do other than boot off the network or a dvd. But atleast such an option would allow quick recovery. It may even make sense to have a tool that gives you a menu to select which zfs snapshot to boot from next time. Things like that would help everyone out.

On SXCE, the installation boot archive is just copied into place and used for that. The OpenSolaris CD's boot archive is not suitable for that usage (not that the SXCE one was, either, but it's even less so). If we're to have one, there's a need for someone (perhaps the sysadmin community) to define what sort of recovery environment is desired and provide a file list or something that can be used to generate it.
