My personal opinion is that the cert isn't worth it. All of the good
admins I know personally got to where they are without a cert. A couple
really useless admins I've known have a string of certs behind their name.
I view most certification the same way as many of my previous co-workers
with their MCSE: it's great to get it if the company is going to pay for
the course and for me to be away from the office for a week. :-) Beyond
that, it means absolutely nothing.
The sad thing is that many companies don't see that. If you _need_ a
cert to keep food on the table, go the cheap route. Otherwise,
read/practice/play, and skip the sheet of paper. If the technical
interviewer can't tell you know your stuff without the "credentials"
then you may not really want to work there anyway.
I agree with the other respondents; I doubt the acquisition will change
anything.
