I wasn't sure if that printer would work with System 6 -- it was, after all, introduced in 1993, two years after the introduction of System 7. But this article seems to suggest that it is possible with System 6:

First, I would upgrade to System 6.0.8. I can't think of any reason not to do that. Here:

Then you would probably need the TrueType extension for System 6. It sounds like you do not have this. It requires System 6.0.7 or 6.0.8, so there's a good reason to update. You'll also need Font/DA Mover 4.1 to install TrueType fonts. Both of these, along with some fonts, can be got here:

The thing about this printer that isn't great is that it's QuickDraw-based, not PostScript-based. What this means to you is that the computer is doing a lot more of the work. This means that with a Mac this slow, this printer may be much slower than other LaserWriters, or that your computer becomes much slower while you're printing. I guess that's only a problem if you're trying to print in the background while doing other things. It may be a good idea to turn off background printing with this printer.
