Unfortunately, the law is the law and if we start ignoring it a
copyright holder can shut us down.  While the probability of that
is very low in most cases (for example: many people don't know who
holds the rights to a lot of Apple II software, though the case is
less ambiguous for most Macintosh software), the possibility still
exists.

As for collecting software, I've amassed a lot of legitimate software
over the years (alas, not the titles requested) and think it is
fair to say that a lot of software does end up on the used market.
It is just that it happens in a magic window, so many years after
the software was sold.  Unfortunately we are now into the System
7.5 era when it comes to second-hand software.
