The NCAA Regionals is an attempt to capture that type of success at the collegiate level.


If that's the case, then we need to do away with these silly exemptions (the at-large safety nets). Even though my school benefitted from them (the Texas ladies' 4x1 got DQed, but will run at nationals anyway), Regionals will never be a source of real drama until they mean something. If you don't make the top 5 at regionals, then you should stay home. Imagine if Duke or North Carolina got upset the basketball round of 64, but the NCAA decided to let them go to the Final Four anyway?
