Thank you for being honest enough to admit your bias.  While football does
take up a lot of money, it is the sport which keeps many student-athletes in
school who might or might not have gone on to get a college education.  Many
of them go on to become good citizens and contribute to their community and
the country.  Unfortunately, because of its notoriety, football takes most
of the heat when it comes time to reduce expenditures.

My alma mater (CSULB) no longer fields a football team.  It also no longer
fields wrestling, gymnastics, crew and several other sports it used to be
good at.
