So does anybody who ran this past weekend anywhere in a collegiate
meet at any of the tens of dozens of colleges across the entire
continent of North America have a rat's patutty of a chance to
finish in the top 50 at the World Cross Champs in March?
If not, then I'd rather talk about what the people who DO have
a shot at finishing in the top 50 are doing right now.
Recuperating from Sydney and the long European track circuit?
Getting in some altitude training in the Pyrenees?
Bet they're NOT putting in L-S-D!
I don't have a problem with talking about XC, but NCAA's don't
cut it. Stanford 3rd? Who cares?
I AM interested in U.S. team selection procedures, and whether there
is anything inherent in the selection procedures which effectively
lock out the very best of our collegiate crop (those who might
otherwise have a realistic chance to be competitive with the
rest of the world in a XC race).
I also WOULD be interested in whether people like Olympic 1500
4th-placer (and list member) Kevin Sullivan are gonna try to make
the Canadian National team for XC Worlds.
I'm always interested in how elite-level middle distance runners
can do when they 'step up the distance' a bit over a cross
country course. At the top of elite-dom, is the XC distance so
specialized that people like Ngeny and El Guerrouj could not realisticly
be competitive?
