NEW YORK (February 11, 2002 02:05 PM EST) - The
USA Men's 8K Championship is returning after a nine-year
                      absence.

The race, just shy of 5 miles, will be run April 6
in Central Park and offer $20,000 in prizes, including $5,000 for the
                      winner.

Among the entrants will be national marathon
champion Scott Larson and national 10-kilometer champion Nick
                      Rogers.

"The chance to bring back the 8K national
championships and showcase it before the greatest road running
community in the world was too good of an
opportunity to pass up," New York Road Runners president Allan Steinfeld

                      said Monday.
