-Emmit Smith Invite, 3/6/03 Pensacola - Incorrectly reported Pensacola News-Journal results have Errol Blackmon, Jr, Pensacola Woodham, at 6'10". According to Chris Nickinson who was at the meet, he cleared 7'0".
" He cleared the height while having to make his approach on a mostly grass jumping area, " Nickinson says in an e-mail.

Boys 1600m - Sam Vazquez, Sr, Bunnell Flagler Palam Coast leads the entire way as Steven Hassen, Sr, Ocala Vanguard tucks in. The final quarter, Hassen tries to pass Vazquez, but Vazquez answers each challenge into the final 100m. Hassen, then unleashes a scorching kick and charges past Vazquez with 75m to go. Surprisingly, he pulls away for the win as Vazquez is unable to answer. 63.6, 66.6( 2:10),66.0(3:16) 58.9 (4:15.43 Hassen, Vazquez, 4:16.75, Tim McLeod,So Winter Park, Trinity Prep,4:23.87 ). Last year, Hassen could only muster 60 second last 400's and lost each time out in the 1600m vs. Vazquez.
" Strength is speed," Hassen comments afterward with future teammate Ryder Leary, Sr, Bishop Kenny in tow. Official time for Hassen 4:15.43
Leary paces teammate to 4:41 in "B" 1600m, runs "tempo run" and then wins "B" 800m race in 2:01(58, 63). " The decision was his own, "Mike Leary says of Ryder's commitment to UF.
Ryan Harris, 7th grade, runs 5:01 with a 71 last second lap and Miles Harris, 8th grade, runs 4:51/ 2:11. Both attend Gainesville Oak Hall.
Boys 800m- Hassen scratches. Vazquez takes lead as Marcus Marshall, Sr, Lake City Columbia tries to challenge through the 400, 58.8. Marshall fades down the backstretch and Ross McMillan, Sr, Tallahassee, Maclay makes a hard charge to bridge the gap with 150m to go. Vazquez skates away in final 100m to win in 1:55.57 (56.5). McMillan, 1:56.67 and Ryan Truchelut( 1:58.66),Jr, Winter Park Trinituy Prep So just get under 2:00.

Rocket Invite, Miami 3/08 - (hand times) Kevin Hicks runs a 1:53 to pace his team to a 8:12. Hicks runs by himself to a 4:19 and 10:06. Willie Foster, Sr, Miami Central wins 100 in 10.5. He finishes 2nd, 21.75 in 200m to teammate Anthony Gaines, Sr who ran 21.72. In the HJ, Edwin Gelin, Sr, Hialeah jumps 6'08" and wins on fewer misses. Terry Dixson, Sr, and James Cassus, Sr, also clear 6'8". In 110mH, 9th grader, Terry Williams, Miami Central, runs 14.80. " Another Bershawn, trust me," says the Coach James Rolle. Miami Southridge defeats Lourdes by a hair in the 4x8 9:50.44(new state leader) and 9:53.90. Jose Garcia, Sr, Miami Belen runs 4:23.47. Bryan Sharkey, So,Miami Gulliver Prep 4:26.43(63. 71, 67, 64), Jaime Calzada, Sr, Miami Jackson 4:31.86. Davon Johnson,Sr, Homestead 1:55.08(He runs a 46.8 leg on the 4x4). Misti Barber, Jr, Carol City 148'08" and 43'11.5"3/04 Brittany Cushman, Sr, Satellite debuted three days after her team won the 3A State Soccer Championship to run a state leading 5:12 mostly solo effort. Opening with a 2:35 800m, Cushman pulled away from teammate, Shannon Miley reaching the 1200m in 3:58. Her closing 800 was 2:37. "It was amazing! I think she actually picked it up in the end," said teammate Alex Stewart who was standing on the infield timing Miley. Cushman ran high 5:20's last year and had only one day of practice prior to Tuesday night's race. She did not run xc the past two seasons. She doubled back to run a 11:50 3200m.

-3/05 Maclay Head Track Coach Gary Droze confirmed today that Ryan Deak's scratch from this Friday's Bulldog Classic was a result of disciplinary action taken after the Chiles Relays on Tuesday. "Ryan was dismissed for refusing to run events I instructed him to run," Droze said in an e-mail this afternoon. Droze added that the dismissal was indefinite and left the possibility for Deak to return to the team.
-3/06 Tampa has been awarded the state cross country championships for the next two years and Eric Speer, Sr, Tampa King, suffers a school suspension and will be out for possibly ten days, jeopardizing his chances to compete at the Bob Hayes meet reports Bill Ward in this morning's Tampa Tribune.
-3/06 Paul Cross learned on Thursday afternoon that he will be unable to compete in the NIC 800m next week after missing the age limit by less than two weeks. " I was really looking forward to the meet and I thought I could win, " said a dejected Cross who was unaware of the age limit set forth by the NIC. "I'll be back though."
"It's just unfortunate," an equally disappointed Coach Ken Ward said. " But we'll recover, won't we Paul ?," he said trying to console Cross as the two spoke in a phone conversation Thursday afternoon. Cross has the fastest high school outdoor 800m�time this year. Cross will be eligible to compete in the state track and field championships in May by a few days.
