The tape reel is synonymous with mobile phones as a key "visual" that
differentiates between voice and text.  Nokia probably made it famous as
somewhat of a standard on their phones.

As far as getting a lot of people lost, I disagree.

I think that is going to lost on *a lot* of people.  How many people
have used or even seen a reel-to-reel tape nowadays?  Most answering
machines don't even have cassette tapes in them.
