A phone will likely have 900/1800/1900 or 850/1800/1900.  As for using
your SIM absolutely.  If you will be using your T-Mobile service you'll
need to have international roaming enabled.  If you wish to use a
prepaid SIM you'll have to be sure that the handset you use is unlocked.
