You assumed I didn't have a unlocked headset. ;) I've been using this one
(unlocked Motorola V330) in Israel a few times w/ Orange pre-paid SIM cards.

Thanks for the advice. I can wait till I get to Germany.

And one more thing unless you're using a spare unlocked phone you'll  
need to ask T-Mobile prior to your leaving to supply you with the  
unlock code for your handset and of course you'll need a handset that  
is capable of the frequencies of the network you'll be using (T- 
Mobile uses 900 & 1800, Vodafone  uses 900/1800, E+ uses 900/1800. O2  
uses 1800 only.)
