Regarding the Blackberry 7100t, I am owning and using one for the past 1.5
years and have continuously been updating the handheld software during this
period. The latest one is version v4.1.0.210, which comes with many
languages if downloaded from here:

Select 7100g, then scroll down for "v4.1.0.210 (Multilanguage)".

The improvements over the original firmware are quite substantial, and I
doubt too far away from what the 7130 features. Of course I am making an
assumption here, as I have never used the latter, but it appears that the
most recent version for the 7130 also is in the v4.1.x range. The original
software version on my 7100t was v3.8, shortly thereafter followed by v4.0.

Personally I'm using a Blackberry 7130 (Cingular branded but running with my
T-Mobile SIM). Although your mileage may vary, I have no problems with the
"SureType" keyboard, except that I miss a Spanish and Dutch language pack to
easily type messages in those languages. I think the software is a huge
improvement over the 7100t that I owned before.
