Not if you have a messaging plan, which perhaps the original poster has. It isn't like they (massaging plans) are rare. I never liked using the "Create SMS e-mail" method much myself. Assuming that is what you are describing above. For one thing it requires the extra step of the "500" part. I go to Messages -> Multimedia Messages then create the message. After comosing you hit OPTIONS -> Send to e-mail then either type in an email address or pick one out of your phones phone book and send the message.
