I wouldn't expect anything to change any times soon. Already this deal is 
getting talk because it may raise anti-competitive concerns. The combined 
company would be the number one carrier in the USA and between AT&T-T-Mo and 
Verizon, those two carriers would account for about 75% of all cell phone users 
(according to an article in today's Boston Globe). So you can expect prolonged 
hearings on this before it is allowed to go through.

I suspect that even if it goes through, we won't actually start to see changes 
until mid to late next year (read: Summer of 2012 or later). So no reason to 
panic or immediately shop for another carrier.
