Many of the 3G phones now sold by T-Mobile aren't single band 3G. Many
manufactures seem to have finally caught on it's cheaper to make a
single device with a chip for all the available bands than separate
models for each carriers' frequencies. In some cases the additional
bands only need to be enabled. Not to say it won't leave some people
out but it's not all bad news.

Personally I hope the FTC rejects the deal or imposes some strict
pro-consumer caveats but I doubt it. Regardless of what happens it's
going to be a long while before anything substantial happens.
