** This is the quasi-official and semi-temporary T13 email list server. ** I am sure most of you have never heard of MetaData on a hard disk device. But the IBM MicroDrive has a new command, Access MetaData Storage (command code B8H, yes it is one of those codes reserved for the CFA). The MetaData storage area is some number of bytes of storage (32 bytes in the current MicroDrive) that can be accessed (read/writen) even when the drive is not spinning. The B8H command is used to determine the size of the storage area and to read/write it. I am wondering if this command is the tip of an iceberg? Will all hard disk drives be required to have this type of storage and this command some day soon? If you don't know about this command, go to the storage.ibm.com web site and get the IBM MicroDrive "product manual". *** Hale Landis *** [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** *** Niwot, CO USA *** www.ata-atapi.com *** -- If you have any questions or wish to unsubscribe send a message to Hale Landis, [EMAIL PROTECTED] To post to this list server send your message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For questions concerning Thistle Grove Industries or TGI's list services please send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
