Hi, this is Steve Jones from General Software, Inc. We make BIOSes for
embedded systems. Our experience is that Win98, WinNT, and Win2K reprogram
chipsets in various areas (including the ATA timing, PCI IRQ routing, and
other areas). However, when soft rebooting, as long as the reboot path
includes coming back up through the BIOS, the BIOS has the responsibility
for making sure the chipset is reprogrammed for correct system operation
during POST. I don't know personally about Linux, but the inquiry was
about Windows originally.
Sincerely,
Steve Jones, CTO
General Software, Inc.
