Hi all,
so, I got KDE-4.1 all build on my notebook, however not many programs works,

"application/octet-stream"
okular: has the nearly same hehaviour, ...
Google did not bring up much, anyone any idea what kde-4.x needs to get MIME
types and it's components right?
I had the same when I built KDE4 on OSX. What was it, hmm, I can check
on friday.
The problem is that the shared-mime-info package doesn't find the
files installed by KDE. This can be fixed by setting the appropriate
shared-mime-info environment variable and then running some
shared-mime-info tool, I think it was update-mime-database .

Ah yes, indeed! It was even me adding a sared-mime-info postinstall
some year ago:

Guess we need some way to automate it for "from source builds" and not
only for "binary build" installs ...
