Ah, this might be the reason why there is no auto-login setup.

you can boot with init=/bin/bash on the boot loader CLI
and set a password for quick testing.

Depending on your needs you might either supply a fixed
password preset or generate a random new one on each
bootup and display it on the login screen for one-time use.t

The live CDs are supposed to log you in without prompting for a name
and password at all. If its prompting you for a login, its probably
configured wrong.
