Looks like this was fixed after the last official ISO build, by:

r37081 | aldas | 2010-08-05 09:27:38 +0000 (Thu, 05 Aug 2010) | 2 lines

        * added /dev/sr* to device list, this helps to locate cdrom on 
VirtualBox

As this was two years ago this reminds us we should probably spin a new set of 
ISOs and call it 9.0 ;-)
