I find it hard to believe that anyone would hide so much of the gold - I
always thought that the point of brocading was to ensure that as much of
the expensive thread was shown as was possible. So, the balance doesn't
seem right.
Is the gold thread fragments on pic 2a what was actually recovered? If so,
it seems to me that the indentations on the metal do show that the
tie-downs were the smaller sections, and the gold showing the larger
(opposite to the woven examples)
