Width is affected not just by yarn choice, but by interlacement.
Accordingly, your 5/2 perle may want to weave at one width for plain weave
alternately threaded, another for 3/1 repp, and yet another width for 3/1
twill. Also, it is possible to force a weave to be a little looser or
tighter than it really wants to be, if it is necessary for effect or for
some other reason.
If you can afford it, I recommend weaving small samples (I do this
backstrap on an 18" warp) so you can establish baselines from which to work
in calculating your projects.
