That's about the size I use, I find it comfortable but then again I have
moderately large hands.  Make sure you set the holes in far enough from the
edges, otherwise the threads tend to catch on the corners when you turn the
cards.  I set my holes in by about 1.5 to 2 cm from the edge.

My octagonal cards measure about 4cm along each edge, I think.  That makes
them a bit larger overall than the square tablets.  I can handle them but
they're just a tad on the big side; my next set will probably be somewhat
smaller.
