Sponsored by TWIST - Tablet Weavers International Studies & Techniques

Well, I've woven my first (short) band with metal tablets, using cheap
acrylic #8 crochet yarn. Things have gotten out of hand (ie my creativity
has run away with my sense) and I'll try them with a range of yarns and
styles, and write up an article or something. So far though there are three
major points I can make:
1. The tablets are heavy; they keel over and lie at an angle of around 30
degrees or more. And the warp sags quite a lot; I didn't measure it but
I'll remember to do that with the next band.
2. 1.1mm copper is too heavy. The 0.5mm tablets work much better.
3. The abrasion of the threads is minimal, less in fact than for my
cardboard tablets.

After getting used to the tablets they actually worked quite well, and I
look forward to playing around with them. And they chime pleasingly. :)

Btw, if anyone has ideas on what specifically I should look out for, please
let me know. My current list is:
1. How the weight of the tablets affect the warp (ie tension etc).
2. How smoothly the tablets can be turned.
3. How much abrasion of the threads there is.
4. How the tablets stand up to use.

Cheers,
Eckhard/Guntram.
